St Oswalds Church in Askrigg Wensleydale North YorkshireAskrigg is a picturesque Wensleydale village that sits in truly beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside. It is better known to millions of people as Darrowby — the location of the village in TV’s James Herriot’s “All Creatures Great and Small”.

Askrigg makes an excellent holiday location for walkers and cyclists, offering a superb base for exploring both Wensleydale and Swaledale and the adjoining Yorkshire Dales.

The nearby village of Hawes (5 miles) is the home of the famous Wensleydale Cheese and the Dales Countryside Museum. Visitors and locals can enjoy the thriving local market day each Tuesday. Hawes is a maze of narrow streets with many shops, craft galleries, tearooms and restaurant. You can make a visit to a traditional rope maker in Hawes!

Aysgarth Falls and West Burton Falls are both impressive sights to see. The well preserved Bolton Castle is a popular family day out, as is The Forbidden Corner and Middleham Castle. Fishing is available on the River Ure and at Lake Semerwater.
